2000

A Hub of Innovation and Research

The National Centre for Research and Technological Development (CERTH) is founded, marking the beginning of a new national research infrastructure with a strong focus on innovation and applied research.
2001

Foundations of Innovation and New Horizons

With the approval of the building program and the publication of the Presidential Decree regarding the local urban plan, the path is now open for the construction of CERTH’s new Institutes.
2008

Completion of New Building Facilities for the Institutes

The creation of these new buildings is expected to strengthen their logistical infrastructure and operational autonomy, providing a home for the Institutes’ vision.
2012

An Eye on the Challenges

CERTH is moving forward with a modernized organizational structure for its Institutes, responding to the requirements of the European Research Area. Thus, CERTH is structured around four main pillars, each represented by a research Institute: CPERI, ITI, HIT, and INEB.
2013

A New Era of Growth with Enhanced Capabilities

With the annexation of what was then the Institute for Research and Technology Thessaly (IRETETH), CERTH’s four Institutes became five, enriching its research output.
2017

From IRETETH to IBO – New Identity, New Horizons

In mid-2017, IRETETH was renamed the Institute of Bio-economy and Agri-technology (IBO), signaling a new era of growth and the expansion of its scientific fields.
2020

3,000 sq.m. of Technological Research and Innovation

With a donation of 5 million euros from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, a modern 3,000 sq.m. research building dedicated to Renewable Energy Sources is being created.
2022-23

CERTH 2.0 – A Developmental Leap into the Future

CERTH is receiving total financial support of 34 million euros from the European Investment Bank and the Recovery and Resilience Fund to expand its research infrastructure and enhance its scientific equipment. This marks its entry into a new development phase that will further strengthen its activities at both national and international levels.

CERTH 2.0 – Entering the Construction Phase

CERTH is receiving total financial support of 34 million euros from the European Investment Bank and the Recovery and Resilience Fund to expand its research infrastructure and enhance its scientific equipment, thereby entering a new growth phase that will enable the further strengthening of its activities on a national and international scale.

CERTH 25: A Landmark Anniversary

Marking 25 years of research excellence, innovation, and social contribution, CERTH hosted a series of events designed to bring the people of Thessaloniki into the heart of its scientific journey.
